Spartan Motors to Pay Special Dividend

Diesel pusher chassis supplier Spartan Motors Inc. announced today it will pay a special 7 cents a share dividend on July 7. The special dividend will be payable to shareholders of record as of June 7. Additionally, Spartan Motors announced that it has repurchased 942,000 of its owns shares for an average of $4.13 a share. RVDA Warns About Company-Owned Stores

The Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) is suggesting that its members be concerned about the possibility of RV manufacturers buying RV dealerships. In a memo recently faxed to its members, the RVDA said laws were passed in seven states so far this year allowing RV manufacturers to own RV dealerships. The states are Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington. Now, a total of 20 states allow RV manufacturers to own RV dealerships. Officials at the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) have reversed a policy that required Wal-Mart and other retailers to be licensed as campgrounds if they allow RVers to park overnight. “We will not require them to be licensed if they don’t charge a fee,” said Pat Metz, chief of the health agency’s general engineering section. Tveten’s RV Mart, one of the oldest RV dealerships in the Pacific Northwest, has gone out of business. The Tacoma, Wash., area dealership, and Tveten RV South, a sister dealership in Mesa, Ariz., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April. Several Coachmen Industries Inc. officers and directors have purchased shares of Coachmen stock since the beginning of this year, according to the insiderSCORES.com news service.
