Supplier firm The Dometic Corp. launched the first phase of a business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce program during the recently completed Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) Convention/Expo in Orlando, Fla. Con/Expo Attendance Flat to Down Slightly

Attendance at this year’s Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) Convention/Expo in Orlando totaled 1,400 to 1,500 people, which equaled or was slightly below last year’s figure, said Phil Ingrassia, communications director of the RVDA. Last year’s con/expo was in Las Vegas, which usually draws more attendees, Ingrassia said. The number of RV dealers attending was not available. Roper Starch Hiring Recommended

The Go RVing Coalition’s Committee on Excellence decided Tuesday (Sept. 26) to recommend the hiring of the Roper Starch Worldwide market research firm to conduct a follow-up survey of RV owners next year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq composite fell to their lowest levels in two months, but most RV company stocks closed higher Tuesday. More warnings about lower corporate earnings caused the Dow to plunge 177 points, or 1.6%, and the Nasdaq to fall 52 points, or 1.4%, Tuesday. Thor Industries Inc., Jackson Center, Ohio, reported record sales and earnings for its fiscal year 2000, ending July 31. The Texas Recreational Vehicle Association (TRVA) unveiled a new Internet education program for technicians at the association’s 27th Annual State Convention Sept. 10-13 at South Padre Island. The price of crude oil declined Monday along with the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Nasdaq composite and most RV company stocks. The price of oil for November delivery declined to $31.60 a barrel in New York and $30.35 a barrel in London as the market reacted to President Clinton’s plan to dip innto the nation’s oil reserves. Bus converter Marathon Coach Inc., Coburg, Ore., has agreed to sell Royale Coach units at its retail outlets in Coburg and San Antonio, Fla., according to the Register-Guard newspaper of Eugene, Ore. Holiday RV Superstores Inc., the RV dealership chain doing business as Recreation USA, has completed the move of its headquarters from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale. RV dealers estimate motorhome retail sales, in terms of unit volume, were down almost 11% during the third quarter, but they also are beginning to feel the market is improving, according to investment firm A.G. President Clinton decided to release 30 million barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, but the impact on gasoline and diesel fuel prices is uncertain. RV company stocks were mixed on Friday as was the case with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq composite. The Dow gained 82 points, or 0.8%, while the Nasdaq slid down 25 points, or 0.7%, Friday. Three small-cap RV firms had a good day Friday.
