If three slide-out rooms are good, then aren’t four better?

The answer, apparently, is “Yes,” according to the manufacturers who introduced units equipped with four slide-outs during the RV industry’s National Trade Show, which ended in Louisville today (Nov. 29).

While three slide-out units have been on the market for only a few months, at least three manufacturers introduced units with four slide-outs at Louisville. Gulf Stream Coach Inc., Nappanee, Ind., and Travel Supreme Inc., Wakarusa, Ind., introduced Class A motorhomes with four slides while NuWa Industries Inc., introduced a fifth-wheel with four slides.

Unlike motorhomes, manufacturers of towable RVs cannot build units that exceed 400 square feet of interior space, or else they would be classified as manufactured homes and would be required to satisfy a different set of standards.

The NuWa Champagne Edition 35-foot fifth-wheel with four slides has 380 to 390 square feet of interior space, according to the Chanute, Kansas-based company. It has pass-through storage and its manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is $68,000.

Meanwhile, Gulf Stream displayed its 40-foot Friendship Quattro diesel pusher at Louisville. It comes on a Freightliner chassis with a standard 330-horsepower (hp) Caterpillar engine. A 400-hp is available as an option, said Brian Shea, president of Gulf Stream’s Motorhome Division.

Gulf Stream positioned the slide-out mechanisms above the floor so they would not reduce the amount of basement storage, Shea said. The company also modified the awning brackets so the slide-out immediately behind the entry door would not prevent the awning from being pulled-out completely, he added.

Gulf Stream also will have four slide-out floorplans for its Scenic Cruiser, Tour Master and Yellowstone models. The MSRP for a four slide-out Friendship will range from $190,000 to $210,000 while the MSRP for a four slide Yellowstone will be around $180,000.

Travel Supreme’s Select with four slides is a 45-foot pusher on a Spartan K2 chassis with a tag axle, said Glenn Troyer, president. The highline unit is a total electric coach with marble floors and granite counter tops. Its MSRP is $370,000, Troyer said.

The Select also features side-hinged basement storage doors for easy access, Troyer added.
