More New 52-week Highs for RV Stocks

The RV company stock price juggernaut continued today (Jan. 28) with Coachmen, Thor and Winnebago shares all reaching new 52-week highs. Supplier firm Spartan Motors also saw its shares climb to a new 52-week high today. Coachmen shares gained 85 cents today to close at $15.70, a new 52-week high, surpassing the old mark of $14.90 a share. Tampa Supershow Attitudes “Excellent”

Attendance climbed 6% to 7% at this year’s Florida RV Supershow in Tampa and consumers attitudes were “excellent, the best I’ve seen in a long time,” said Lance Wilson, executive director of the Florida RV Trade Association (FRVTA), sponsors of the event. New Florida Reservations System Aids RVers

ReserveAmerica, a unit of event ticketing company Ticketmaster, recently launched a service for RVers and campers wanting to reserve spaces at Florida State Parks. ReserveAmerica operates a call center in Orlando, Fla., to book reservations at the 50 Florida state parks that operate campgrounds. The 50 parks have a total of 3,000 spaces. Jayco to Shift Production

Jayco Inc. will shift production of its Eagle and Qwest fifth-wheel brands from LaGrange, Ind., to nearby Middlebury, Ind., next month (February). The 120 employees who work on the two assembly lines will be given the opportunity to move with their jobs next month, said Sid Johnson, director of marketing. Eagle and Qwest production will be moved into the new towable RV assembly plant in Middlebury which Jayco completed late in 1999, shortly before the industry’s downturn. About a 9% increase in paid attendance is expected by the promoters of the Chicago RV, Camping and Van Show, which begins Wednesday (Jan. 30) at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. A 9% increase would bring attendance up to 25,000 people for the five-day event, which will end on Sunday (Feb. 3). Senate CAFE Bill Expected in Two Weeks

The Senate Commerce Committee’s proposal for new federal fuel economy standards for sport utility vehicles (SUVs), pickups and minivans is expected in about two weeks, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The committee is expected to raise the corporate average fuel economy, or CAFE, standard for “light trucks” to somewhere above 30 miles per gallon (mpg). The RV industry in Australia has a national conference scheduled to begin in a few weeks “to unite as one as we consolidate our industry’s growth and work together so that we can continue to develop in the future,” according to Richard Davis, chairman of Caravan Industry Australia. The conference will take place Feb. 6-8 at the Rydges Wentworth Hotel in Sydney.
