Hotel Company Seeks RVer Customers

Densely populated cities and RVs usually are not a good mix, but a San Francisco hotel company is trying to make RV travel to a big city more convenient and pleasurable.
Joie de Vivre Hospitality, operator of 21 boutique hotels in the San Francisco/Silicon Valley area, is offering a special “Hit the Road” package for RVers through June 29.
The package, available exclusively to AAA and AARP members, includes parking for one RV and accommodations for two at $125 a night, plus tax, at the Hotel Bijou on San Francisco’s Union Square. Also included is continental breakfast for two, a double feature of San Francisco-based films, free candy at the hotel’s old-fashioned candy counter and two movie passes to any UA Theater.
The Hotel Bijou is inspired by San Francisco’s cinematic history and is adorned with movie palace stylings and its own private movie theater.
“San Francisco’s small geographic area has made it largely inaccessible to RV travelers,” said Chip Conley, founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality. “With this package, the Hotel Bijou hopes to open San Francisco to RV travelers and share all of the pleasures of both the city and its rich history.”
Because San Francisco was built before the automobile changed the American landscape, there’s almost no parking spaces for RVs except for Candlestick RV Park on the outskirts of the city. High real estate prices in downtown San Francisco also makes RV park development prohibitively expensive, so Hotel Bijou is attempting to carve a niche for itself by attracting RV enthusiasts who want to enjoy the city, according to its parent company.
