Consumer Confidence “Booming”

Manufactured Home Communities Inc. (MHC) has acquired Mt. Hood Village, a 450-site RV resort in Welches, Ore., for around $6.8 million. Mt. Hood Village is about 40 miles east of Portland and it is the only full-service RV resort in the Mt. Hood recreational area, according to the Chicago-based MHC. Rexhall Reports 4Q and Full-year Losses

Motorhome manufacturer Rexhall Industries Inc. reported losses for the fourth quarter and full year 2001. The Lancaster, Calif.-based company lost $1.6 million net during the three months ended Dec. 31, compared with a $451,000 net profit earned a year earlier. Rexhall lost a total of $2 million net during the full year 2001, compared with a $2.3 million net profit earned during 2000. Smaller Dealers Report January Losses

Smaller RV dealers reported net losses in January, although the amounts were smaller than they were during January 2001, according to consultant firm The Spader Companies. The average smaller dealership, which the Spader firms defines as those with less than $5 million in annual sales, reported a net loss of $17,192 this past January, compared with a net loss of $23,017 a year earlier. Ford Announces E-550 Cutaway Prices

Ford Motor Co. has unveiled the pricing and plans for production of the E-550 cutaway chassis which could blur the distinction between Class C motorhomes and entry-level gas Class A’s. DeWolf Sees Higher Motorhome Shipments in ’02

Motorhome shipments will rebound nicely this year while towable RV deliveries will decline for the second consecutive year, according to the latest forecast by John DeWolf, economic consultant to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). Travel Trailer/Fifth-wheel Retail Soars Higher

Retail sales of new travel trailers and fifth-wheels soared higher in January, when compared with January 2001, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., an independent market research firm. Meanwhile, retail sales of folding campers and park models declined in January, Statistical Surveys reports. Winnebago Declares Cash Dividend

Motorhome manufacturer Winnebago Industries Inc., which reported sharply higher earnings Wednesday (March 20) morning, declared a 10 cents a share cash dividend Wednesday night. The dividend will be paid July 8 to shareholders of record as of June 7. The Winnebago Board declared the dividend because of its “continued confidence in the company and the strength of the RV industry,” Winnebago shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange.  Read More →
