Spartan’s Fire Truck Chassis Business Booms

Diesel pusher chassis supplier Spartan Motors Inc. also is a major producer of fire truck chassis, and that part of its business is booming, the company reported today (May 29). Spartan believes that in May it will have its best month for custom fire truck chassis orders in more than three years. New 52-week highs were reached today (May 29) for the stocks of Spartan Motors, Coast Distribution and Thor Industries. Diesel pusher chassis supplier Spartan revealed early today that it had robust order volume for its fire truck chassis in May. As a result, its stock reached a new 52-week high of $13.40 a share today, shattering its previous mark of $12.49. Freightliner to Intro New Chassis

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. will introduce a new model, equipped with a 505-horsepower (hp) Caterpillar engine, during the RV industry’s National Trade Show in Louisville Dec. 3-5. Cummins to Seek ISM Engine Certification

Diesel engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. said it believes it will receive U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for its ISM engine before a new EPA nitrogen oxide emissions standard goes into effect on Oct. 1. The ISM engine is available in up to 450-horsepower (hp) and is used on diesel pusher chassis for highline motorhomes. The timetable for the expansion of the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center (KFEC) in Louisville, site of the RV industry’s annual National Trade Show, now is uncertain because the Kentucky Legislature is at an impasse over a new budget, according to Mary “Mike” Hutya, vice president of meetings and shows for the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). FMCA Revenue Exceeded Expenses in ’01

The not-for-profit Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) and its for-profit subsidiary, Family Motor Coaching Inc. (FMCI), report that their combined revenues exceeded their combined expenses by $148,209 during 2001. In contrast, FMCA and FMCI had a combined budget surplus of $1,490,834 in 2000, which was the best year, in terms of finances, in its history, according to Connie Pool, national treasurer. Thor Industries Inc. stock almost reached $70 a share in New York Stock Exchange trading today (May 28). Morgan Group Reports 1Q Loss

Morgan Group Inc., parent of RV, manufactured home and commercial vehicle delivery firms Morgan Drive Away and TDI, reports a net loss of $2.7 million for the first quarter. The American Stock Exchange-listed company’s first quarter loss includes a $2.3 million non-cash charge for goodwill impairment.
