Monaco Buys Motorhome Resort Real Estate

Monaco Coach Corp. has reached an agreement in principle to buy the real estate and other assets of three proposed luxury motorcoach resort properties in Las Vegas, Nev., Indio, Calif., and Naples, Fla. The seller is Outdoor Resorts of America (ORA), which will continue to concentrate on the development of the properties along with site management and lot sales. Class A motorhome manufacturer Damon Corp. believes its online salesperson training program is a success, but the Elkhart, Ind.-based company now is planning to conduct a more traditional national dealer meeting during the summer of 2003, according to Gary Groom, RV Division president and CEO. Monaco Coach Corp. is the first RV manufacturer to offer Sirius Satellite Radio-ready radios as standard equipment on selected models, Monaco and Sirius announced today (July 24). Drew Industries Inc., parent of towable RV chassis supplier Lippert Components and RV door and window supplier Kinro, reports sharply higher second quarter earnings which resulted from increased sales to RV industry customers. Fleetwood Focusing on Towables Product Development

Fleetwood’s motorhome business appears to be on the mend but its travel trailer and fifth-wheels sales have lagged behind the industry for several months. As was the case during the last 10 days with almost all companies with stock on the market, the price of many RV companies’ stocks lost several dollars per share in value. But there was a bit of a rebound today (July 24) with several RV company stocks gaining more than 5% in value in a single day’s trading.
