RV Rally Park Sought for East Texas
The east Texas town of Nacogdoches is pursuing the RV rally business in a big way as a potential revenue source for the historic community, according to an official at Nacogdoches-based highline motorcoach manufacturer Foretravel Inc.
“The RV industry has a real need for rally parks,” said Paul Tinkle, who manages the Foretravel Motorcade Club in addition to serving on a Nacogdoches task force that is pursuing the 200-space rally park.
He said the city, which would own the park, already dedicated 53 acres of land for the project. Now it’s up to rally park proponents to secure state grant money so the RV sites, hookups, clubhouse and other amenities can be built.
It hasn’t yet been determined who would operate the park.
“We’re in the planning stages on this,” he said. “It’s not something that has been finalized.”
However, Tinkle said, the need for rally parks is critical in general, and the city believes it could market its park for use by the Good Sam Club, the Family Motor Coach Association and other clubs.
Preliminary plans call for full utility hookups, including 50-amp connections, as well as an activity building large enough to accommodate 500 people. The activity building would have its own commercial kitchen, Tinkle said.
