Sales Brisk at Coast Distribution Show
Coast Distribution System Inc. drew about 5,000 people representing more than 900 RV and marine dealerships Feb. 10-11 at the Rio All Suites Casino Hotel in Las Vegas for its 2004 Dealer Advantage Buying Show.
Business for the Morgan Hill, Calif.-based distributor of aftermarket parts and accessories was brisk to say the least, much as it has been for rest of the industry lately.
“We had a nice double-digit increase over last year,” reports Dave Berger, executive vice president for Coast.
Berger said the show featured 217 exhibitors occupying 80,000 square feet in two halls. “I didn’t hear anybody there complaining about anything.”
This year’s show was considerably larger than last year’s, he said, and part of the reason was that the marine and RV elements were combined, unlike last year. Coast took the opportunity to promote a new “Recreation Advantage” retail finance program – in conjunction with Wells Fargo Bank – through which dealers can extend no-interest, same-as-cash terms to customers for 90 days, six months or 12 months.
The dealers, who cover the interest expenses themselves through the blanket Coast program, offer credit cards to consumers for no-interest purchases of goods and services at their stores. Over a hundred dealers have signed up so far for the program, which was introduced a few months ago, according to Berger.
