Richmond, Ind.-based dealership Tom Raper Inc. has opened a second store, this one north of Cincinnati in Fairfield, Ohio.
“Over the years, we’ve sold thousands of units in the Cincinnati market,” said Dave Bane, president of the company. “From a parts and service standpoint our customers needed to be taken care of.”
The new 40,000-square-foot indoor showroom and parts store on Ohio Route 4, about 55 miles southeast of the original Tom Raper location in Indiana, is in a building that formerly housed a regional lumber yard.
Raper spent $1 million to convert the facility, Bane said.
The site also features a 10,000-square-foot service center containing 10 service bays, with room to more than double its size if needed.
“It’s modular and I can expand the service facility up to 27,000 square feet if needed,” Bane said.
The grand opening was held over the weekend of March 13. The first 100 customers received discounts and more than $15,000 in prizes were awarded.
The Fairfield store will employ about 50 people and stock about 250 towable and motorized RVs.
“Since this is our first expansion, we felt it would be good for us to keep it relatively close to the main dealership so we can move inventory between the two units and flex employees as needed,” Bane said.
The Fairfield store is next to Jungle Jim’s International Market, a 500,000-square-foot grocery store that also features a conference center and Starbucks outlet.
“They get 55,000 cash register rings a week and we are right next door,” Bane said.
