The Go RVing Coalition likely will postpone a decision on whether to proceed with its fourth consumer satisfaction survey until the outcome of J.D. Power and Associates’ survey becomes more clear. Spartan Launches Brand Licensing Program

Minnesota Campground Changes Hands

A recently retired fire chief from suburban Minneapolis and his wife have purchased the Pipestone RV Campground in Pipestone, Minn., near the South Dakota border, the Pipestone County Star reports. The buyers are Kevin and Ronda McGinty of St. Louis Park, Minn., and the sellers are Carl and Nancy Cowan. McGinty had been a fire chief for 28 years, most recently in Richfield, Minn. Fleetwood’s 4Q RV Sales Up 19%

Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. reports its RV sales increased 19% during its fourth fiscal quarter and rose 20% during its full fiscal year 2004, both of which ended Sunday (April 25). Fleetwood’s total RV sales during the February-through-April period increased 19% to $482 million and its motorhome sales improved by 21% to $300 million. Lazydays RV SuperCenter, the largest single-location dealership in the industry, is in the process of being sold to a New York-based private equity firm, credit rating agencies Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s reported Wednesday (April 28). Towables Retail Red Hot in February

The retail market for towable RVs was red hot in February with travel trailer sales increasing 23.6% and fifth-wheel sales expanding by 33.3% when compared with February 2003, according to Statistical Surveys, an independent market research firm. Monaco Coach Corp. reports its net earnings nearly tripled during the first quarter of this year, when compared with the first quarter of 2003, which was relatively weak, especially for diesel pushers, because of low consumer confidence due to the build-up towards the eventual invasion of Iraq. Despite a 16.4% increase in motorhome chassis sales during the first quarter, Spartan Motors Inc., reports its net earnings during the first three months of this year declined by 49%. Spartan’s earnings plunged to $1.3 million during the three months ended March 31, compared with $2.6 million during the same period a year earlier, because of the net loss incurred at its firetruck and emergency vehicle operations. Samsung Microwave Recall Expanded

Samsung Electronics, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has announced an expansion of its recall of microwave ovens installed in RVs sold in the U.S. during the past three years.
