Stat Surveys: October Towable Sales up 7.3%
The impact from hurricane-related sales was reflected in a 7.3% increase in October towable retail registrations, according to data from Statistical Surveys Inc.
Travel trailer sales for the month jumped 12.7% from a year ago, with 10,554 units sold compared with 9,365. Sales for the first 10 months rose 4.3% to 138,502 units from 132,800 last year.
The fifth-wheel retail market remained relatively flat, posting a 1% gain for October with 5,589 units sold from 5,535 in 2004. Year-to-date fifth-wheel retail registrations slid 3% to 69,627 units from 71,746.
Overall towable sales totaled 17,711 units, up from 16,505 last year. For the first 10 months, towable registrations dipped 0.9% to 235,670 units versus 237,727 in 2004.
Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Statistical Surveys noted that registrations were not available for the states of Oklahoma and Delaware.
Other highlights include:
• Camping trailer sales declined 2% in October with 1,156 units sold versus 1,180 last year. Year-to-date sales of fold-downs were 18.1% behind last year’s pace with 22,999 units sold compared to 28,067.
• October recreational park trailer sales declined 3.1% to 412 units from 425 in 2004 while registrations for the first 10 months dropped 11.2% to 4,542 from 5,114.
