Cavco Ramps up Texas Park Model Plant
Cavco Industries Inc. this month has begun manufacturing recreational park trailers at a 90,000-square foot factory in Seguin, Texas
“We’re going to be producing units for consumers and campground operators in Texas and throughout the eastern half of the United States,” said Tim Gage, Cavco vice president.
The plant will initially employ 30 to 50 workers, but additional employees will be hired as production levels increase, Gage said.
The units will be produced at a factory Cavco previously sold. But demand for park models prompted the Phoenix-based company to buy back its former building and use it for producing park models, which comprise a relatively small, but growing share of Cavco’s production. The Seguin factory will be known as Cavco Specialty East.
“Building park models in Texas will make us more competitive because we’ll be able to cut our shipping costs for our growing customer base in the eastern half of the United States,” Gage said, adding that the company is seeing particularly high levels of demand for Cavco park models in Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin and other areas across the Midwest and Southeast.
The Seguin plant will also enable Cavco to better serve campground and RV resort developers with nationwide operations, he said.
Cavco manufactures cedar-sided cabin style park models as well as traditional units with cathedral ceilings and lofts.
