CRVA’s Mockford to Retire After 20 Years

The Canada Recreation Vehicle Association (CRVA) has hired Brad Clark, previously Ontario’s minister of transport and minister of labor, as its lead executive officer. The transition officially occurs July 1 when Don Mockford, CRVA’s executive vice president, retires from the association after 20 years. High gas prices may be stifling the traditional summer vacation, according to a report in USA TODAY. Only 39.8% of consumers plan to take a vacation within the next six months, a 28-year low, the Conference Board said recently. At the request of the Go RVing Coalition, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) will encourage its member manufacturers to institute procedures to ensure that Canadian Recreation Vehicle Association (CRVA) stickers are applied to RVs sold in Canada. AAA Sees Slight Rise in July 4th Travel

The number of Americans traveling during the July 4th holiday weekend will increase 1.2% from a year ago, the smallest rise since 2000, as high pump prices cause people to cut back, AAA said in an annual forecast. A record 40.7 million Americans will take trips during the long weekend, the summer’s biggest travel holiday, up from 40.2 million last year, according to AAA, the nation’s largest motoring club. As Expected, Fed Raises Interest Rates

Unhappy with rising prices, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates Thursday (June 29) by a quarter percentage point as expected. CBS MarketWatch reported that the Fed has hiked rates at 17 straight meetings since June 2004, bringing its target Fed funds rate from a four-decade low of 1% to 5.25%, the highest level since March 2001. Despite pleas from area lawmakers and residents, Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher apparently didn’t put tax incentives for a Cabela’s store on the agenda for a special legislative session slated to end this week. ARVC: Campground Business Increases

A national survey by Michigan State University reported record average occupancy of 83% at camgprounds over the Memorial Day weekend that were members of the National Assocation of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC). ARVC surveyed its members to gauge summer business and the impact of higher gas prices. Occupancy over two-day weekend represented a 10% increase over last year.
