Consumer Confidence Retreats in October

U.S. consumer confidence dipped unexpectedly in October on growing pessimism about the job market and the economy, the Conference Board said Tuesday (Oct. 31). CBS Marketewatch reported that the private research group said its consumer confidence index fell to 105.4 in October from a revised 105.9 in September. Despite a variety of new products for 2007 and evidence that the Class A motorhome market may have bottomed out, the president of Middlebury, Ind.-based Coachmen RV Co. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, a national restaurant chain with an RV-friendly reputation, has aligned with the Good Sam Club offering membership sign-up for the RV owners organization. Dura Files Chapter 11 for U.S. Operations

Rochester Hills, Mich.-based auto parts supplier Dura Automotive Systems Inc. on Monday said its U.S. and Canadian subsidiaries have filed for bankruptcy protection amid production cuts by major U.S. automakers. The Chapter 11 filing was made with U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, the Dura said. Its European and other operations outside the U.S. and Canada weren’t part of the filing. Keystone RV Offering First Rebate Program

Keystone RV Co. is offering rebates of between $500 and $1,500 to all retail customers who purchase a 2005 or 2006 Keystone travel trailer of fifth-wheel between Nov. 1 and the end of this year. Sept. Shipments Drop, Trailers Tumble 20%

Overall wholesale deliveries declined 16.3% in September, pulled down by a 20% drop in travel trailer shipments, according to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). September shipments totaled 27,800 units compared to 33,200 the year prior. For the first nine months, wholesale deliveries were 8% ahead of last year’s pace with 316,100 units shipped versus 292,700.
