Auto Sales End Year With Lackluster December

Industry analysts are predicting a lackluster end to an already dismal year for automakers, likely the worst in nearly a decade. The Associated Press reported that holiday discounts failed to bring consumers out of their funk, and December sales are expected to fall around 4%, which would bring the full-year total for U.S. auto sales to 16.1 million vehicles, the lowest volume since 1998. Report: December Consumer Confidence Rises

U.S. consumer confidence rose in December due to an increase in short-term expectations, though consumers “remain far from optimistic,” the Conference Board reported Thursday (Dec. 27). According to Marketwatch, the consumer confidence index rose to 88.6 from a revised reading of 87.8 in November. The initial estimate for November was 87.3. Cooper Industries Ltd. today (Dec. 26) announced the acquisition of RV supplier Sure Power Industries Inc., as well as OMNEX Control Systems ULC and Roam Secure. Combined sales for the three companies in 2007 will be approximately $62 million, while the total purchase price is approximately $100 million. DMV Investigates Former California Dealer

A former California RV dealer is under investigation by California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on allegations the company defrauded clients. The Redding (Calif.) Record Searchlight reported that at least six people contacted local law enforcement with allegations concerning R&R RV Sales, Anderson, which closed in July according to DMV records. Canadian RV Builder Hires Ex-Fleetwood Workers

There’s apparently a light at the end of the tunnel for roughly 75% of Fleetwood Canada’s former employees. On Friday (Dec.21), the City of Kawartha Lakes joined forces with the management team of Great Lakes Recreational Products Inc. to announce production of travel trailers and fifth-wheels at the Mount Hope Street plant.
