Industry analysts are predicting a lackluster end to an already dismal year for automakers, likely the worst in nearly a decade. The Associated Press reported that holiday discounts failed to bring consumers out of their funk, and December sales are expected to fall around 4%, which would bring the full-year total for U.S. auto sales to 16.1 million vehicles, the lowest volume since 1998. U.S. consumer confidence rose in December due to an increase in short-term expectations, though consumers “remain far from optimistic,” the Conference Board reported Thursday (Dec. 27). According to Marketwatch, the consumer confidence index rose to 88.6 from a revised reading of 87.8 in November. The initial estimate for November was 87.3. A former California RV dealer is under investigation by California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on allegations the company defrauded clients. The Redding (Calif.) Record Searchlight reported that at least six people contacted local law enforcement with allegations concerning R&R RV Sales, Anderson, which closed in July according to DMV records. The Louisiana Department of Revenue is suing a St. Rose company that sold $120 million worth of travel trailers to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the months after Hurricane Katrina, saying it owes more than $400,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties.
