GM Cuts Production of Full-Size Trucks, SUVs

General Motors announced Tuesday (April 29) that it will cut full-size truck production in North America by 138,000 units for the remainder of the year, according to a report in Automotive News. The news preceded today’s earning report showing that the automaker swung to a $3.25 billion first-quarter loss. Cummins 1Q Profits Up, RV Market Weakens

Cummins Inc. said Wednesday (April 30) that first-quarter earnings were up 33% as international growth helped offset increased commodity prices and weakness in some U.S. markets, including recreational vehicle. The sale of Fleetwood Enterprises Inc.’s folding camping trailer division to an undisclosed buyer has been in the works for over a year, according to Paul Eskritt, president of the Riverside, Calif., manufacturer’s RV Group. Fed Trims Key Interest Rate by Quarter-point

The Federal Reserve has cut a key interest rate by a quarter-point, a smaller move than the aggressive easing it undertook earlier this year. The Associated Press reported that the Fed action, announced Wednesday (April 30) after a two-day regular meeting, pushed the federal funds rate down to 2%, its lowest level since late 2004. Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. today (April 29) announced several developments and transactions, including the pending sale of its folding camping trailer division in Somerset, Pa. Canadian Travelers Adapting to Pump Prices

Gas price angst is haunting many Canadians planning their traditional summer highway treks, according to a report in Oilweek magazine, Edmonton. The Hotel Association of Canada says Canadians’ travel intentions have “softened.” In a recent annual poll 70% of Canadians said they planned to take a domestic trip some time in 2008, down from 78% in last year’s survey, the association said.
