Although off somewhat from 2007, Canadian retail RV sales in the first quarter apparently weren’t slammed nearly as hard by the North American economic slowdown as sales in the U.S.
Canadian motorhome sales of 303 Class C and Class A units in the first quarter – the most recent period for which statistics are available – represented a 10.9% drop from 340 units during the same period in 2007.
The U.S. market posted a 24.8% decline to 5,453 coaches during the same period of time, according to Statistical Surveys Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich.
Canadian Class C retail sales declined the most – 23% versus 2007 – while Class A sales in Canada slipped only 2.8 % compared to a 25.5% drop in the U.S.
Similarly, towable sales in Canada through the first quarter were down 10.7% compared to a 19% dip in the U.S. during the same period.
