Thousand Trails is spending $2 million to upgrade its camping preserves over the winter.
“Overall, our goal is to give you better roads for driving at the parks, better campsites to park your rig, better power hookups for your RV and basically, nicer surroundings for you to relax and enjoy a wonderful vacation,” Joe McAdams, president of Equity LifeStyle Properties Inc. and Thousand Trail’s parent company, told readers in the January/February issue of Trailblazer magazine.
Here are examples of some of the dozens of projects taking place over the winter:
From East Coast to Texas: Work is beginning on campsite renovations for 200 campsites at the Orlando, Fla., preserve and 250 campsites at the Indian Lakes, Ind., preserve; the main roadways at Lake Conroe, Texas, Indian Lakes and Medina Lake, Texas, are being repaved or improved; and major electrical upgrades are underway at the Chesapeake Bay, Va., Forest Lake, N.C., Hershey, Pa., and the St. Clair, Mich., preserves.
West Coast: New playgrounds are under construction at San Benito, Calif., Lake of the Springs, Calif., and Oakzanita Springs, Calif.; road improvements and a new entry fence at Wilderness Lakes, Calif.; new paddle boats, kayaks, picnic tables and barbecue grills at Lake Minden, Calif.; new lodge furniture at La Conner, Wash., and Pacific City, Ore.; a remodeled entrance and new ranger station at Leavenworth, Wash.; new fencing and horse corrals at Rancho Oso, Calif.; and new flooring for the family lodge and new fencing at Palm Springs, Calif.
“Depending on permits and weather, some of these projects may take longer than others to break ground, but the funding is there and the park managers are just as eager as you to see these projects completed,” McAdams said.
The upgrade project started with preserve managers creating a “wish list” for what their park needed or wanted, McAdams explained. He said ELS is fulfilling “a large portion” of their requests.

If we are members of thousand trails, do we have to pay anything if we stay at an outdoor world or ELS PROPERITES?

We were thousand trails members at Lake Tawakoni but had to pull our trailer out when they announced last year that we had to pay our our monthly membership yearly. We are retired on a fixed income and we can’t afford paying yearly dues. When we signed up dues were monthly and we absolutely loved having our trailer there. Please let us know if anything has changed and we can go back to an affordable monthly rate. Several of our friends kept their rigs there and they had to pull out for the same reason. We are all waiting to hear if things can go back like it was when we bought our membership. For now it is just going to waste. Thanks

When are you going to replace the aluminum wiring in Lake Whitney? I have a fifth wheel and I can’t use 30 amps in whitney I have to use 50 amp there anywhere else I can use 30 amp. We love Lake Whitney the park is wonderful the management & their help are the nicest people. So all the parks we have been to are wonderful and I recommend thousand trails every day to those that don’t have a membership. Thx. Butch Littlejohn

We like to frequent the Oceana park in Ocean City, Washington. Where are all the rental trailors? Part of the club house has been torn down as well. They have started “renting” RV spaces for the year to members. What’s that all about? We had a set back and no longer have an RV, so we use a tent, but it was nice to be able to rent a trailor once in a while when we went down to to ocean, now it’s the ground or nothing. I haven’t seen any “improvements” since the rentals were sold. What’s happening down there?

We just returned from a two month winter trip to California/Arizona and were greatly disappointed in the condition of bathrooms and overall upkeep of the Pio Pico Preserve. Over the past year we have heard many complaints about power grids not being able to support all the campsites too, i.e. Chehalis. I would think members would rather have power/water/sewer and a maintained site than a pretty fence at the entrance or around the pool. We were also shocked at how many sites are now annually rented sites at both Pio Pico and Palm Springs. I know this must bring in revenue, but at the loss to the general membership RVer (it was much more difficult to get a reservation because so many sites are now designated an annual site or rental unit). This is not at all what TT was meant to be!!!

I would like to read the responses to the commits/questions. Many good questions. We are not going to go to Chehalis because the power has gone out for some portion of the three day weekends for the last two or three years. My question about this two years ago has never been answered.

I have been trying to work with your new “Thousand Trails (???)” website. If it is the Thousand Trails website, why are all of the “not included in your membership” sites listed. I upgraded to the VIP membership a few years ago, but find it does not cover many of the properties listed. If my money is financing the Thousand Trails website, I demand that it be exclusive to the funding source. Does your auditor approve the inappropriate use of funds?

I STAY AT OUTDOOR WORLD PINECOUNTRY , WE WERE PROMISED LAST YEAR BY THE MANAGER AND MARK THAT OUR ELECTRIC WAS TO BE UPGRADED UP THEN AGAIN THIS YEAR WE HAD NO MANAGER AND NO UPGRADE TO THE ELECTRIC AS MARK PROMISED….. THERE IS SEVERAL SERVICE CONCERNS AT THE PARK , NO WALKING TRAILS, SHOWER ROOMS WITH WALLS THAT ARE FALLING APART AND CEILING TILES COMING DOWN, SEVERAL TREES HAVE BRANCHES BROKEN AFTER THE LAST SERIES OF STORMS AND NO CLEANUP DONE OTHER THAN US MEMBERS DOING IT OURSELVES… WE WERE TOLD IT WAS PART OF MAINTAINING OUR SITES…. THAT WAS TOLD TO US BY THE PART-TIME MANAGER FROM ANOTHER PARK AND WHEN YOU QUESTION HER SHE GETS OFFENSIVE AND TALKS DOWN TO YOU, FOR SECURITY WE ARE TOLD TO CALL 911 FOR ANY PROBLEMS OR LET THE OFFICE KNOW IN THE MORNING IF WE COULD NOT HANDLE IT OURSELVES.

If 1000 Trails is renting spaces to the public for a fee, just maybe it could be illegal. If this is happening, then why are we paying such high dues every year? It is not fair to the members at all, even if they are getting more revenue.

Also for the bigger rigs, Vegas preserve has the right method by giving spaces when you arrive to accomodate the size of your rig so you don’t have to drive around looking for a space to fit into!!!

Although most of the preserves we have been to are nice – it would be nicer to spend the money on more sewers at the spaces and 50 AMP electrics!

Since Tall Cheif RV resort in Washington is within my area why do I have to pay $35.00 to $45.00 per night if I stay there.
If I stop paying $500.00 per year to 1000trails and pay it to Encore instead I have free access every year to theirs and 1000trails. Why would I keep paying thousand trails for a smaller piece of the pie at the same price?
