RVs Recalled for Egress Window Problems

Editor’s Note: The following story was taken from the RV News Service about the latest development in RV safety.

They’re called “egress windows,” and they’re in your RV to help you make a quick exit in case of an emergency. July has seen a rash of incidents for RVs with egress window issues. Either the windows are sticking – or the company simply didn’t install them to start with. Here’s a roundup from the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA).

• Forest River Inc.: About 250 “Work and Play” travel trailers and fith-wheels, model years 2010 and 2011, have sticky egress windows, which the agency says can make it difficult for occupants to exit in an emergency.
• Coachman TV: Nearly 3,000 “Catalina” travel trailers, model years 2010 and 2011 also have a sticky egress window issue.
• Fleetwood RV: 72 “Encounter” and “Storm” Class A motorhomes have gone off the assembly line without the required road side egress window. Instead, a standard window has been installed, which the company will replace. Model years include 2010 and 2011.
