MVP RV Inc. announced today (Nov. 24) that it will be introducing a new line of Class C motorhomes under the name Tahoe at the upcoming 48th Annual National RV trade Show in Louisville, Ky. , Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.

MVP’s booth is No. 5523.

“We had a clear vision for this product,” John Millis, Tahoe product development manager, stated in a news release. “We wanted to build an affordable Class C with an upscale look and feel.”

Tahoe comes on a Ford E350 or E450 chassis with hardwood raised-panel cabinet doors, full extension metal drawer guides, Onan generator, keyless entry, iPod /MP3 ready, fabric ceiling, high gloss gel coat fiberglass and aluminum running boards.

“The timing of this product introduction could not be better for us,” added Millis. “We have a new state-of-the-art, 23-acre production facility located in the heart of the country’s largest Class C market. The Tahoe line is a natural progression for our company, and should be very well accepted by both our dealers and consumers.”

According to the latest Statistical Survey Report (year to date through September, 2010) the Class C retail market is running ahead of last year by over 17% for the 11 Western states.

The all new Tahoe line will be unveiling two floor plans in Louisville. The 230 QB features a wrap around U-shaped dinette, corner queen bed, and large mirrored double door wardrobe. The 310 QBS features a wrap around U- shaped dinette/sofa slide out, 32-inch flat screen TV and rear walk around queen bed. MSRP for the 2011 Tahoe starts at $62,300.

Very happy to see that RV manufacturing is back in southern CA. Fleetwood made some very poor decisions due to their manufactured housing group (buying up dealerships), and allowed their RV sales to suffer.

First they closed their towables, which left the market with a gaping hole, then they kept maintaining the image of a giant in the industry while they used up scrap pieces to build second rate, high priced motorhomes, that were priced well above the competition.

Winnebago never did this. They have always lived and survived each financial crisis by leading in quality and being diversified. Winnebago manufactured car parts while the RV sales slumped to maintain their work force.

I have owned seven Fleetwood motorhomes in the past twenty years. All built in plant 33, Riverside, CA. It was very sad to see the plant close and all the workers loose their jobs in such a bad economy.

It is great to see MVP move into the old Fleetwood Riverside plants and again put people back to work and build RVs for the southern CA market as well as the other western states and Canada. I also understand they have a trade agreement to build thousands of RVs for China. This is great! We are manufacturing and exporting a product for the U.S. Fleetwood didn’t do this, WHY? Shipping costs for MPV RVs staying in the CA market RVs will be more affordable to the market which still purchases the majority of RV in the country. CA has always been a camping and travel state, and even with the down economy retains a great number of RV sales for the U.S.

I feel it is time to allow a smaller company to grow and prosper where a giant in the industry became selfish, not focused on consumer requests, as evidenced by their continued outdated fabrics choices, non innovative floor plans (until the recent downturn in their sales), and obvious control of the market, that often lead many of their competitors to fall to the side.

I am also amazed to see how many former heads of Fleetwood now work in leading positions for MVP and Thor, just as they fled to National RV in the nineties when Fleetwood would not come around and just continued to do business as usual without listening to the consumer. I know this first hand from dealing with plant executives and sales people that refused to customize, offer options other RV’s had and their slow move to wide body and slides. The rest of the industry passed by while Fleetwood lived off the laurels of their past. The Bounder was great, and the basement RV was innovative. But how many times can you be amazed at the chicken laying an egg!

Good for MPV. I guarantee I will look seriously at them with our next purchase, and will most likely never purchase another Fleetwood product. As a southern CA resident, I cannot forgive the mess they left too many of our residents in. After the support and dedication we consumers provided them over the years.

I am not in favor of bailing out any company that won’t listen to their consumers, and I will not support companies that abandon their employees. The fact is, there was a need in CA for RV builders, but Fleetwood chose to close plants and not just sunset them until the economy came back. I also heard many negative comments at a recent RVIA show from Fleetwood reps stating they were happy to move away form the workforce they had in southern CA, which they depicted as “non quality oriented.” Funny, Volkswagen builds quality in Mexico. Why would there be a difference? This made me suspicious of the possible bias in the employees they wanted to retain with their new image.

I am just glad to know John Crean didn’t live to see this.
