Stat Surveys: Class B Sales Rose 25% in 2010

Retail sales of Class B motorhomes rose 1.7% in December over December 2009 and finished the year up 25% over 2009 sales, Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI) has reported.
Kitchener, Ontario-based Roaktrek Motorhomes Inc. continued its dominance of the Class B market, garnering a 46.9% share in December and 43.7% for the year.
Thor Industries Inc. earned a 23.5% share of the Class B market in December, but another Canadian builder, Pleasure-Way Industries Ltd., finished second for the entire year with a 22.9% share.
For the year, Winnebago Industries Inc. finished in third with a 15.9% share, while Thor was fourth with a 13.7% share.
Five of eight U.S. and Canadian Class B builders reported retail sales for the month of December.
The Class B market is a sliver of the overall RV market, accounting for less than 1,500 retail sales for the entire year. Nevertheless, Class B sales showed steady strength throughout the year, posting year-over-year improvements in 11 of 12 months.
