Editor’s Note: The following restaurant review was written by Anita Lau for the Orange County Register in Southern California.

Would you believe it if I told you a new restaurant has opened inside Traveland USA, the RV sales lot in Irvine?

I’ve heard from several people about how good the food is, but was really in no rush to check it out. Then, a few more people mentioned it, and so it was undeniably time to go see for myself.

There is only one way into the lot, so maneuvering through all the colossal vehicles is inescapable.

But once inside, Roosters Fun Bar is like any other sports bar serving up simple, hearty fare.

We start with a bowl of tortilla soup ($5), which arrives with colorful strips of tortilla on top. The soup is thick, is filled with black beans, kidney beans and corn and has a definite Southwestern flavor. I love that it is served piping hot. Nothing is worse than lukewarm soup.

Pizza is completely homemade, I’m told, down to the dough. The kid is all over that! The New York pizza (all pizzas are $12) includes sausage, pepperoni, onions and garlic, and we request it on a thin crust.

The middle of the pizza is a bit soggy, but other than that, it tastes good. The kid is quiet throughout lunch, so I know he likes it.

The old-fashioned burger ($5.50) is a good-sized patty on a toasted roll.

The meat is grilled on an open fire, and the smokiness is evident. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato, red onions and pickles. It’s a stellar burger, especially for the price. You definitely won’t feel cheated.

I am always on the lookout for a good club sandwich ($8), and the one here is outstanding.

Turkey, bacon, cheddar, lettuce and tomato are stuffed between perfectly toasted sourdough, and takes a bit of work to get my mouth around it. This is the biggest club sandwich I’ve had in a while, and after eating half, I’m done. The rest goes home with me.

Breakfast is served on weekends, and an array of bar food such as buffalo wings, nachos, sliders are always available. I can totally see this place come to life during the evenings when the game is on.

I foresee this becoming a go-to place for sandwiches and burgers for us, especially since it’s just down the road.
