A fire at The RV Corral on Highway 99 in Eugene, Ore., just after 5 p.m. Wednesday (April 6) caused an estimated $400,000 in damage to the business’ detail shop, The Register-Guard reported.
But firefighters were able to save a dozen RVs parked as close as 10 feet away, Eugene Fire Department District Chief Scott Bishop said at the scene.
“When we came onto the scene, the first thing we tried to do was move the RVs, but a forklift wasn’t available,” he said. “And so we had to act fast to keep the flames contained.”
The smell of smoke permeated the interior of the RVs, which otherwise appeared undamaged.
The detail shop closes at 5 p.m. on weekdays, but employees in the sales department, which stays open until 6 p.m., noticed smoke coming from the building and immediately called for help.
When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the east side of the 4,000-square-foot structure, Bishop said.
The fire was reported at 5:21 p.m. At least 11 fire department units responded to the fire.
Bishop said no one was hurt in the blaze, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
