Chicago-based Equity LifeStyle Properties, Inc. (ELS) announced Tuesday (May 31) it had entered into purchase and other agreements with certain affiliates of Hometown America, L.L.C. to acquire a portfolio of 76 manufactured home communities containing 31,167 sites on approximately 6,500 acres located in 16 states. Campgrounds used to be the exclusive domain of RV and tent camping enthusiasts. But that’s changing, thanks to the growing market appeal of rental cabins. Editor’s Note: Robert W. Baird & Co. issued a client newsletter following the report on RV shipments for April by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). Excerpts from the Baird newsletter follow. Action April shipments up 2%. Total RV shipments increased 2% in April, as motorhome shipments increased 8%, while towable shipments increased just 1%. Harrisburg’s Riverbend Resort Set for Auction

One of Oregon’s newer RV destinations, the 14-acre Riverbend RV resort in Harrisburg, is slated to go up for auction. The upscale resort, replete with a conference center and 19-room hotel, apparently is a victim of the receding Great Recession, according to KMTR NewsSource 16. Riverbend RV park first broke ground in 2004, when RV sales were strong. They set up shop by major RV manufacturers in Junction City and Harrisburg. Newell Workers Join in Joplin Relief Efforts

Some 50 employees from high-end motorhome builder Newell Coach Corp. today (May 27) were in Joplin in southwest Missouri carrying supplies and helping clean up following last Sunday’s tornado that ripped though the city of 50,000.
