Click here to watch a video from NBC24, Toledo, Ohio on the following story.

Swanton, Ohio-based Walters Travel Trailers is opening the road to wheelchair-bound campers.

The Freedom Traveler H is the first of its kind, owner Jack Walters said, custom built to fit the needs of a person in a wheelchair rather than forcing handicap people to convert a standard trailer.

Aside from a ramp, the Freedom Traveler’s countertops and ovens are the right height for the wheelchair-bound, Walters said, and the shower easily allows for wheelchairs to roll right in.

Walters said he is grateful to have been able to open camping and traveling up to those who might not have been able to go otherwise. He said one girl “shook my hand and said ‘Thank you for inventing this. We needed it.’ And it just touched me.”
