Year-over-year motorhome sales edged down 2.9% in May, while registrations for the first five months were up 1.1%, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
Overall sales in the Class A category were flat, down 3.1% for the month and showing no change from 2010 results year-to-date.
Tiffin Motorhomes Inc. remained the Class A leader for the first five months with a 21.8% market share, just edging Winnebago Industries Inc., which posted a 19.5% market share. Thor Industries Inc. was No. 3 in sales, recording a 17.2% market share.
Class C sales fell 2.7% in May but rose 2.3% for the first five months. Thor Industries Inc. was the leader year-to-date, holding a 29.3% market share, followed by Forest River Inc.’s Coachmen RV division (20.5%) and Winnebago (16.9%).
SSI noted that it has added the capacities to track Class C units that were sold as rental fleets, which reflected a 14% increase in May from the previous year.
