Tailgater from King Controls

The new Tailgater portable satellite TV system has been named an International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards honoree, according to a press release.

Jointly designed by King Controls and Dish Network, the Tailgater is the “first-ever fully automatic, portable satellite TV antenna to provide direct communication with the Dish Network satellite receiver for completely automated set-up.”

“This award from CEA recognizes the Tailgater as an innovative solution to bring high definition television outdoors,” said Ira Bahr, chief marketing officer for DISH Network. “The Tailgater’s simple set-up combined with full access to DISH Network’s programming packages at convenient month-to-month pricing makes it the best ‘TV-on-the-go’ option for outdoor enthusiasts.”

The Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology trade show, and has been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering ever since 1976. Products included in this CES program are judged by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and journalists to acknowledge outstanding design and engineering in innovative consumer electronics products that encompass 32 categories.

“Since 1999, King Controls has led the RV market with new and innovative mobile satellite TV antennas that allow people to enjoy their favorite TV programs while living the RV lifestyle”, said Lael King, president and CEO of Bloomington, Minn.-based King Controls. “We’ve introduced many industry firsts over the years, but the automatic portable antenna category and the Tailgater antenna more specifically have been the most gratifying for me. At a retail price of just $350, automatic satellite TV reception is now a very affordable entertainment option for all RV owners and easier to use than ever before.”

It really doesn’t surprise me that the Tailgater was named a honoree for CES. I was pretty excited when I first heard the news of it coming out and now that I have one, I absolutely love it! My family and I spend a lot of time camping and RVing throughout the year so it’s been a pretty beneficial device for us. My husband especially loves it since he doesn’t miss any of his favorite football games anymore lol. One cool thing that I love about it (that I found out, since I also work with DISH) is that an external hard drive can be setup to the required ViP211k receiver, giving it DVR capabilities, which is definitely pretty awesome. I love that it’s the lowest priced portable satellite system out there too! I know I definitely recommend it! :)
