Good Sam Club Offering Pilot Flying J Discount

The Good Sam Club is offering members an exclusive money-saving benefit with the launch of the Pilot Flying J RV Plus Card, according to a press release.

Beginning in 2012, Good Sam Club members can apply for the discount card which will allow them to save on each gallon of gasoline and diesel fuel purchased; 10 cents per gallon on bulk propane purchased, and 50% on holding tank dump station charges at all applicable Pilot Flying J locations across the United States. The recent decision to combine the former Camping World President’s Club and the Good Sam Club into a newly-expanded, upgraded club was a key element in the club’s partnering with Pilot Flying J.

“The extra leverage of our combined member numbers helped make the Pilot Flying J discount possible,” said Good Sam Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis. “Our members have been asking for this benefit for some time, and it is one that we are especially happy to make available to them.

“The price of fuel represents the single biggest expense in most of our budgets as we enjoy the RV lifestyle. Securing discounts on a commodity like fuel is not easy. Finding a provider who has a nationwide network of locations and the facilities to properly serve our members is even more challenging.”

Along with savings on gasoline, diesel, propane and dump services, Pilot Flying J locations offer a wide array of conveniences and services well-suited for RV travelers, including dedicated RV fuel lanes, convenience stores, on-site restaurants, safety and a clean environment for families. As part of the exclusive new program for Good Sam members the companies have co-produced an RV Travel Guide which lists all the participating Pilot Flying J locations and the RV specific services available to members at each location.

How different is this from the FlyingJ RV Card or FlyingJ Professional Driver cards that are already readily available? I already get these discounts with these cards, why switch or apply for the Sam’s Club FlyingJ Card?

I think it’s just a new spin on an alreay existing Flying J / Pilot RV fuel discount program.

How much discount on gas and diesel? Are they only offering 0.02 on gas and possibly 0.01 on diesel per gallon (as in the past when Pilot bought out Flying J)? If that is the discount then I’ve seen cheaper prices along the highway without considering the “discount”. Hopefully I am wrong on this one !!

I am a member because of FMCA. If you are a member, and an iPhone user, go to the App Store and get the “My Pilot” App. Very usefull while traveling or planning a trip.

UPDATE on discount prices:
This card offers discounts of .03/.05 gas/diesel to new members of Good Sam (if not a member then you will be charged a $25 joining fee). The discount then works up higher the longer you area member of GoodSam – “deluxe” members get .04/.06 off per gallon and a Lifetime member receives the highest discount of .06/.08 per gallon. All discounts are off of the cash price and are claimed to be accepted at auto, RV and truck lanes – pay-at-the-pump style. It is NOT a credit card as payment is expected in FULL at due date of your billing – there is NO carry over to the next month.
So far sounds like a pretty good plan (to me)… for more (and better) details go to

@Dave Update on discount prices……
I wanted to know if the discount would apply to the “cash” price and not the “credit card” price. How do you know it will be off the “Cash” price at the pump since this card is a credit card?? Do you know if this RV plus card can be swiped at the pump and then be paid for inside with “Cash”

Sorry for the delay in reply but I just now saw the response while reviewing ‘old’ bookmarks I have saved. I looked up the following info and copied it here for you. Info was found and directly copied from:

Save money on every fuel purchase
The diesel discount is reflected off the cash price:

Here’s an example
Posted Diesel Credit Price . . . . . . . . . . . $3.50/gal
Cash Price . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $3.44/gal
Deluxe Member Discount . . . . . . . . . . . . $0.06/gal
Your Price . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. $3.38/gal
That’s a savings of $.12 per gallon off the credit price!

MY Disclaimer: I AM a GoodSam (lifetime) member but have NO affiliation with either Pilot, Flying-J or for that matter ANY fuel station. I use Flying-J when traveling (IF convenient and along my route) but I have NOT yet tried this new card. I still have the ‘older’ card for RV’s and currently not close to a Flying-J to make the drive and/or savings beneficial. In my present location the mileage driven to and from the station would not justify the per gallon savings when you compare to local diesel offerings (even though those are now over $4/gal – I’d have to save $40 overall to break even at the current distance).
Hope this is helpful…
