SSI: February Canadian Motorhome Sales up 3%

Year-over-year Canadian motorhome sales rose 3% in February, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), while registrations were down 7.9% for the first two months.

SSI noted that data for the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario were incomplete.

Thor Industries Inc. was the Canadian motorhome sales leader through February, capturing a 16.4% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (15.6%) and Winnebago Industries Inc. (14.1%).

Class A registrations edged up 2.6% from the previous year in February and 2.4% year-to-date. Thor was No. 1 in Canadian Class A sales for the first two months with a 23.3% market share, ahead of Fleetwood RV Inc. (17.4%) and Forest River (14%).

In the Class C segment, sales increased 3.6% for the month but were down 23.6% through February. Jayco Inc. held the No. 1 spot year-to-date with a 28.6% market share while Forest River and Winnebago each captured a 19% share.

    While motorhome sales are up in Canada the US is reporting drastic drops. I suppose that indicates that perhaps the economy is recovering more quickly in Canada. Or maybe more Canadian RV’ers are taking advantage of the higher Canadian dollar to vacation to the south.
