The summer RV Technician Distance Learning Courses, RV Electrical Services (Beta 6009), Pre Delivery Inspection (Beta 6004) and RV Towing Systems (Beta 6013) have been announced. The courses are held online through Northampton Community College in partnership with the Pennsylvania Recreation Vehicle and Camping Association (PRVCA).

According to a press release, the electrical systems course will run from May 21-July 15, taking an in-depth look into the first of the three major systems found on most RVs. Beginning with 12-volts DC and expanding to 120-volts AC, all electrical systems and components are dissected and defined. Though Ohm’s Law is not the main focus and basic electricity is not presented, the student will easily grasp the important electrical basics necessary to troubleshoot, install and repair any RV electrical component. Rather than theory, practical shop application is the focus. The proper use of test equipment is also outlined and perfected. Students are led through each type of electrical test.

Tuition cost: $375.00. Employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition upon successful completion of the course.

RV Technician Recertification Credit Hours: 56

The pre-delivery inspection course will run from May 21–June 24. PDI is one of the most common tasks associated with a selling RV dealership service shop. All new RVs must be “PDI’d” prior to delivery to the retail customer. Here, the students proceed, step by step, through the process of performing a quality PDI. Troubleshooting and repair techniques are not the focus of this course; rather this course teaches how to actually inspect and test the viability of all components found in every major system. All electrical, LP and plumbing gear, as well as all safety components and add-on accessories are closely inspected and operated.

Tuition cost: $190.00. Employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition upon successful completion of the course.

RV Technician Recertification Credit Hours: 28

RV towing systems (Beta 6013) will run June 25-July 29. All elements of RV towing are included in this course; a truck towing a travel trailer or fifth-wheel trailer, a motorhome towing a small car, etc. All elements of electric trailer brakes, including troubleshooting, repair and maintenance, are taught. Hitch design and installation techniques are presented as well as all associated electrical wiring between tow vehicle and trailer. Safety elements are stressed including weight data and all associated terminology.

Tuition cost: $190.00. Employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition upon successful completion of the course.

RV Technician Recertification Credit Hours: 20

The courses materials are supported by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) and feature competency-based instruction, assignments and testing.
