PRVCA Distance Learning Fall Schedule is Set
The RV Technician Distance Learning Program has announced its fall courses: RV Air Conditioners, RV Absorption Refrigerators and RV Heating Systems. According to a press release, the courses are held online through Northampton Community College in partnership with the Pennsylvania RV and Camping Association (PRVCA).
• RV Air Conditioners (Beta 6015) will begin Aug. 27 and run through Oct. 7. This course examines the roof-top air conditioner in detail. Revisiting the fundamentals of alternating current electricity, the students jump into the science of the refrigeration cycle. Delving into the properties of vaporization and condensation and applying the principles of compression, students gain the skill necessary to troubleshoot component failures along with the ability to repair and/or replace vital components. Installation requirements and preventive maintenance practices are also learned in this course. Tuition cost: $325. Employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition upon successful completion of the course. RV Technician Recertification Credit Hours: 48.
• RV Absorption Refrigerators (Beta 6016) will begin Oct. 8 and run through Nov. 11. This is the appliance that causes the most confusion – how to use heat to make cold. The theory of absorption and associated processes are fine-tuned and presented in a way that makes this sometimes perplexing device a little easier to understand. Like the other LP appliances studied, individual component testing and replacement is accomplished as well as an understanding of all operational ills on each energy source employed by the RV refrigerator. Tuition cost: $270. Employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition upon successful completion of the course. RV Technician Recertification Credit Hours: 40.
• RV Heating Systems (Beta 6017) will begin Nov. 12 and run through Dec. 9. The last of the four LP-burning appliances is presented in this course. Though earlier designs of RV heaters and furnaces are discussed, the main focus is on the forced air furnace. Its sophistication and compactness both contribute to its difficulty in working on one. Like the other three appliances, each component part is dissected and discussed individually, as is the furnace, as a whole. Subjects covered include furnace installation, diagnosing operational faults, repairing and testing, and more. Tuition cost: $135. Employees of PRVCA members will receive a 50% reimbursement on tuition upon successful completion of the course. RV Technician Recertification Credit Hours: 20.
