RVB/Blue Ox Poll: A Final Shot at Show Debate
Posted By RV Business On December 11, 2012 @ 1:30 pm In Breaking News | No Comments
Now that the RV industry’s 2012 trade show season is in the rearview mirror and the holidays are approaching, we thought we’d entertain one last survey question for the year on the rather sensitive topic of show consolidation.
There was a great deal of excitement earlier in the year, of course, over the prospect of combining all three key national trade events — Elkhart’s September Open House, RVDA’s Con/Expo in early October and RVIA’s late November Louisville Show — into one consolidated venue that would ideally serve all industry elements in one cost-effective location, be it Indianapolis, Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis, Louisville or elsewhere.
At one point, there was also talk of including RVAA’s fall Executive Conference, and it looked as if the industry might be headed toward one coordinated “kumbaya” event while an ad hoc panel — including representatives of both the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) and the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) — deliberated over the best alternatives for the industry at large.
In fact, RVBusiness and its survey partner, Pender, Neb.-based supplier Blue Ox, ran a poll during that period in which 47% of the respondents expressed a preference for Indianapolis as a site for the conjoined event.
Somewhere along the way, however, the wheels essentially came off the whole industrywide conversation, as both RVDA and RVIA have taken a wait-and-see approach until at least 2015 while the two associations live out their respective commitments in Las Vegas and Louisville. Meanwhile, Elkhart’s annual RV Open House Week, an event without any named leadership, seems to have gained favor in terms of professionalism and traffic in the interim with 71% of surveyed RVB/Blue Ox respondents having voted their approval in a post-Open House poll.
Now, as the year winds down, we thought we’d put the question to you one last time, regardless of all the water that’s gone over the dam, so to speak, during 2012:
Would You Still Prefer That the Key National Trade Associations Work Toward an “All-Industry Show?”
