Starcraft Inc. has updated its inexpensive, lightweight 7-foot-wide Launch travel trailer series designed for towing by minivans and crossover vehicles. With a dry weight of 3,500 pounds, the fiberglass Launch is available in four 15- to 18-foot entry-level floorplans — two of which are equipped with soft-sided rear bed extensions. MSRPs range from $12,000 to $14,000. ”The Launch is designed for tow vehicles that are limited as far as towing capacity,” said Brent Froman, national sales manager for the Topeka, Ind., subsidiary of Jayco Inc. ”The small trailer is one of the sweet spots in the market right now.” Standard in the Launch, in addition to 6 1/2-foot ceilings, are front diamond plate, rear stabilizer jacks, outside storage, 18,000-Btu air conditioner, two-burner range, hardwood beech cabinet doors and an inside-outside dining table. Also available is in the Launch, as well as the Starcraft AR-One, is an off-road option with five inches of additional clearance that includes 15-inch mud tires, enclosed underbelly, added flexfoil insulation and a black awning. ”It makes it into a hunter’s unit,” Froman said, adding that the 2013 AR-One is available in five 14- to 18-foot floorplans from $12,000 retail.
