MARVAC: Novi Show Yields Record Attendance
The 47th Annual Detroit Camper & RV Show, sponsored by the Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles & Campgrounds (MARVAC), experienced record breaking show attendance.
The show, which ran from Feb. 6-10, at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, recorded over 21,000 attendees – a 13% increase over last year’s record attendance and “the best show in 12 years,” according to a news release.
MARVAC reported that 291 new recreation vehicles were on display, adding that “show visitors were enthusiastic while dealers and vendors were encouraged by the large turnout.”
Gary Becker, owner of Indigo Bluffs Resort in Empire, Mich., was pleased with the interest and engagement of the show attendees, noting, “This was a positive sign that there is a continued growth in the RV and camping lifestyle. People are interested in committing to outdoor recreation.”
According to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), 2012 showed substantial growth in the number of RV shipments compared to 2011 figures. The Detroit Camper & RV Show is an indication this trend could continue through 2013.
“The attendance for this show was phenomenal and it’s obvious the camping and outdoor lifestyle is growing,” said Dave Rochette, owner of Westland Camping Center. “Interests are across-the-board, ranging from the small, less-expensive models, to the larger, luxury models. Some new RVs even include island kitchens, which seemed to be very popular with buyers.”
MARVAC also sponsors shows in Battle Creek, Flint and Traverse City. For information on these shows, visit www.marvac.org.
