Forest City, Iowa-based Winnebago Industries Inc. has hung up a help-wanted sign, soliciting production workers to help keep pace with demand.
The Forest City Summit reported that Winnebago, the area’s largest employer, has posted a sign on Highway 69 since October urging people to apply for work.
“We have 100 openings right now,” said Winnebago Personnel Supervisor Gary McCarthy.
The search for additional employees comes after the RV manufacturer reported a $7 million increase in net income from the second quarter last year compared to the second quarter this year.
“The sales demand is driving the new hires,” McCarthy said. “Dealers are demanding more orders.”
Winnebago lists production assemblers and RV technicians as the primary hourly positions available. Starting pay for production assemblers is $12.05 per hour with the potential for pay increases. Starting pay increased for production assemblers in February and McCarthy said there is an excellent opportunity for overtime at the company right now.
Employees must be 18 or older to work in the plant and Winnebago emphasizes on that job training is available for new hires.
“We are looking for employees with good people skills that take direction well,” McCarthy said. “We need people to be here on time and have the ability to learn new tasks.”
Winnebago hired more than 30 welders last year, but are now getting caught up at that position.
“Last year it was tough to find welders,” McCarthy said. “But we are in good shape now.”
Winnebago travels to various job fairs around northern Iowa and southern Minnesota to recruit potential workers. McCarthy added that the creation of online applications has increased application flow.
