Year-over-year Canadian retail sales of towable RVs edged down 5.5% in April and 10.1% for the first four months as all sectors showed declines. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., results by segment showed:
• Sales in the travel trailer sector dipped 1.6% in April and 7.1% for the four months.
• Fifth-wheel sales edged dropped 14.4% for the month and 16.5% year-to-date.
• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 17.3% in April and 21% for the four months.
• Recreational park trailers segment fell 34.1% for the month and 34.9% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through April with a 34.5% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (16.1%) and Jayco Inc. (14.9%).
Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales year-to-date with a 34% market share while Jayco was No. 2 with a 16.5% share, followed by Forest River with a 15.1% share.
Thor held a commanding lead in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector through April, capturing a 49.1% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 16.5% share followed by Palomino RV at 9%. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 62.5% share followed by Forest River (12.5%) and Woodland Park (8.9%).
Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the three months with a 31.3% market share while Jayco posted a 29.1% share and Forest River’s Coachmen RV division held a 22.3% share.
