Year-over-year Canadian retail sales of towable RVs fell 21.7% in March and 16.7% for the first quarter, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based firm noted that data for Canada is experiencing a delay, and once it is complete for the month Stat Surveys will put the data into the correct months.
Results by segment showed:
• Sales in the travel trailer sector retreated 19.1% in March and 15% for the three months.
• Fifth-wheel sales edged dropped 27.6% for the month and 19.3% year-to-date.
• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 28% in March and 26.1% for the three months.
• Recreational park trailers segment dropped 47.8% for the month and 35.7% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through March with a 36.8% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (15.6%) and Jayco Inc. (13.4%).
Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales year-to-date with a 34.6% market share while Jayco was No. 2 with a 15.1% share, followed by Forest River with a 14.3% share.
Thor held a commanding lead in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector through March, capturing a 50.7% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 16.4% share followed by Palomino RV at 8.2%. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 63% share followed by Forest River (11.1%) and General Coach (7.4%).
Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the three months with a 33.7% market share while Jayco posted a 29.9% share and Forest River’s Coachmen RV division held a 20.7% share.
