Ram Begins Production of 2014 ProMaster Van
Ram Truck this week started production of its newest commercial vehicle, the 2014 ProMaster van, according to Chrysler Group LLC.
MLive.com reported that the Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automaker is producing the vehicle, which debuted at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show in February, at its Saltillo Van Assembly Plant in Coahuilla in Mexico.
The Fiat Ducato-based large van is available in a gasoline-fueled 3.6-liter V6 and a “torque-laden,” I-4 EcoDiesel engine, which generates peak torque of 295 lb.-ft. at 1,400 rpm, according to the company. The engines are paired, respectively, with a proven six-speed automatic transmission and an electronically controlled six-speed automated manual.
The new large van is expected to be a direct competitor of Ford’s new lineup of commercial vans, including the full-size 2014 Transit Connect and Transit, which also offers a diesel engine option.
The ProMaster is available in an array of cabs and lengths, starting at about $26,000 for the ProMaster Cutaway.
