Gregg Fore dons kilt for Ronald McDonald House

If you didn’t know that Dicor Corp. President Gregg Fore was one of 10 area men putting their pride on the line and their legs in kilts as part of a unique fundraising campaign, you’d have to question his mental health for making so many appearances lately in a, um, rather revealing kilt.

Yes, Fore’s surprising dress code – see photos at www.greggsleggs – results from a five-year-old “Men in Kilts” fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana, which provides “an oasis of comfort” for the families of children undergoing treatment at area medical facilities as part of its “Family Room” operations at nearby South Bend Memorial Childrens Hospital.

The contest’s winner is the one who brings in the most donations prior to the Oct. 24 awards ceremony at South Bend’s Hilton Garden Inn. And Fore and his “Gforce” campaign staff aim to raise the ante from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday night (Aug. 27) during a dinner/reception at the 523 Tap & Grill in downtown Elkhart Ind.

523 Tap & Grill proprietor George Anagnos has promised to donate a percent of his proceeds from the evening’s event, which is also co-hosted be Dr. Jeff McBride and his wife, Natalie, as well as Bart and Debbi Fore, and is sponsored in part by Lake City Bank and HIMCO. Also on hand will be Shelley Lesniewicz, executive director of operations for the Ronald McDonald House charity.

South Bend’s Ronald McDonald facility operates year-round on a 12/7 basis with two paid staff members, 120 volunteers and an annual budget of $350,000. Of that total, Fore reports, $30,000 comes from the McDonald’s Corp. while $100,000 is derived from coin collector devices located in McDonald’s restaurants and the rest from assorted donations.

“Before participating in this event, I knew very little about the Ronald McDonald House Charities,” said Fore, immediate past chairman of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) board, on his Greggsleggs website. “I recently toured the Michiana facility and met the staff, I was genuinely impressed with their dedication to make the few rooms they have work exceptionally well.

“This is a hidden jewel in our community that offers a place to sleep, food — a sanctuary of comfort during a very stressful time. No one is prepared, emotionally or financially, for a seriously ill child, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities take some of that stress away so parents can focus on helping their child get well. Please support the RMHC of Michiana and the Men In Kilts, as our legs may be overexposed, but our hearts are in the right place.”
