Horizon Transport held its annual Driver Appreciation Day Aug. 3, honoring around 600 of its contractors at the Grand Horizon Center in Elkhart, Ind. “Our fleet has grown to close to 1,300 drivers in 48 states,” said Rob Jackson, motorized operation manager for the Wakarusa, Ind.-based company. “Horizon is a very busy transportation company so it’s hard to get our drivers together to spend quality time as a group. This event is 100% about paying tribute to our dedicated drivers and the great job they do for Horizon.” Reinforcing the family owned aspect of the firm, president and owner Marion Schrock, and his wife, Brenda, personally greeted the drivers as they filed into the hall. Horizon was founded in 1984 by Schrock’s father, Melvin, along with his mother Ruthann, who was also on hand for Saturday’s celebration. After serving a full-course meal, attendees enjoyed a two-hour program that included special driver presentations, a performance by comedian Craig Tornquist and a raffle that included close to 100 door prizes. Five of the company’s six million mile drivers were also recognized by Horizon.
