Ohio Retailers Reporting Strong Summer Sales

This summer, more families seem to be gassing up the recreational vehicle than ever.
Ryan Meeks, sales manager at Craig Smith RV Center in Galion, Ohio, said RV sales are up from last year, according to a report in the Mansfield News Journal.
“We’re off to a very good start,” he said. “I think a lot of it is due to the improvement in the economy — people having more confidence and people starting to spend money on things they really enjoy.”
Margie Slatter, general manager of Young’s RV Center in Fremont, said her business has seen similar trends.
“We belong to a group of 20 other RV dealers and they’re saying about a 20% increase from last year’s numbers,” she said. “RVs are a recovering industry. I attribute this to a lot of reasons. One being baby boomers are retiring and that group has a lot of disposable income. We’re also seeing a lot of families with young children. It’s much more economical to buy an RV and go camping than it is to get a hotel and fly some place.”
Cassie Miller, of Loudonville, said her family realized just how much their RV meant to them after they sold it last year.
“My husband Brian had always camped with his parents and he really got me into it,” she said. “Last year, I was starting nursing school and we were trying to cut down on bills, so we sold ours. But this summer, not being able to go camping was killing us, so we ended up buying another.”
