Year-over-year Canadian retail sales of towable RVs gained 2.4% in June and were flat for the first six months, up 1.3%. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., results by segment showed:
• Sales in the travel trailer sector rose 4.2% in June and 4.7% for the six months.
• Fifth-wheel sales edged down 2.2% for the month and 5.8% year-to-date.
• Folding camping trailer registrations fell 3% in June and 9.8% for the six months.
• The recreational park trailers segment grew 8.8% for the month, but declined 23.9% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through June with a 35.5% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (16.3%) and Jayco Inc. (16%).
Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales year-to-date with a 34% market share while Jayco was No. 2 with a 17.6% share, followed by Forest River with a 15.1% share.
Thor held a commanding lead in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector through June, capturing a 48.8% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 16.9% share followed by Palomino RV at 10.1%. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 57.3% market share followed by Forest River (15.2%) and General Coach (10.1%).
Jayco led the Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the six months with a 32.3% market share while Forest River posted a 31.4% share and Forest River’s Coachmen RV division held a 20.5% share.
