Caravan Salon Success ‘Exceeds Expectations’
With increased visitor numbers, good sales figures and numerous new launches, Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2013 demonstrated the European RV industry’s strength as 570 exhibitors from 22 countries displayed an array of product during the Aug. 30-Sept. 8 event. According to a press release, the trade show was centered at Germany’s Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre as well as several open outdoor areas.
“With 175,000 visitors, this year’s Caravan Salon has by far exceeded our expectations,” said Joachim Schäfer, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf, in a press release. “Despite the tense economic situation, visitors and RV enthusiasts from all over the world came here to meet their business partners and gather information on innovations. Additionally, it is particularly positive to note that despite the current market climate in Europe around 25,000 attendees from abroad traveled to Düsseldorf.”
Hermann Pfaff, vice president of the Caravanning Industry Association (Germany), noted, “We are pleasantly surprised by the high visitor numbers and their willingness to buy. The results have clearly exceeded our expectations and interest has risen yet again. The good results produced by the event and the positive mood among both customers and dealers are important for the industry as a whole.” He also noted that demand in the RV segment increased.
The positive outcome of Caravan Salon 2013 was also confirmed by the majority of the exhibitors who reported avid interest and satisfactory sales, making Caravan Salon a “must-go-to” event for the RV sector even in difficult times.
Holger Siebert, CEO of Eura Mobil GmbH, noted an increase in the number of Dutch visitors as well as new customers. “Due to the advertising campaign launched by the association and the activities of Messe Düsseldorf, significantly more visitors have come to Caravan Salon than expected,” he said. “We have concluded noticeably more sales deals than in the previous year. The exhibition in Düsseldorf was very successful and is sure to give the sector a boost over the next few months.”
Delighted with the throng of visitors at the Hobby stand, CEO Klaus Dieter Böcker, remarked, “We have achieved one of our best results at the trade fair ever with our mobile homes but also in the caravan segments.”
“We have achieved last year’s sales figures and have even clearly surpassed them in some segments. To us, Caravan Salon is definitely the No. 1 trade fair and is even more important this year since trade fair activities in other European countries have dropped significantly,” said Jörg Reithmeier, CEO of HYMER AG.
Exhibitors also agreed on the quality of the talks they had with the visitors. “Visitors were well informed and we succeeded in getting numerous new customers,” said Wolfgang Speck, CEO of Knaus Tabbert GmbH. “In terms of total sales we are currently at the previous year’s levels – which is a considerable achievement in view of the overall situation on the markets.”
In the tourism segment, exhibitors also praised the higher visitor numbers and quality. The hiking trade fair TourNatur was again held concurrently with Caravan Salon. A total of 275 exhibitors showcased the latest hikingequipment and products to 35,000 attendees.
The 2014 CARAVAN SALON will be held in Düsseldorf from Aug. 29 (trade visitor and media day) to Sept. 7.
