NHTSA Issues Recalls for Chassis, Door Locks
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced recalls affecting certain RVs and/or motorhome chassis:
• Spartan Motors Chassis, Inc. is recalling 313 2011 SU and 2011 through 2012 model year MM, K2, and K3 recreational vehicle chassis manufactured from Jan. 28, 2011, through June 28, 2011, equipped with air gauges supplied by Ametek. An incorrect value may have been used in the formula for calculating the sweep angle of the dial and may have resulted in the accuracy of the gauge varying as much as 11% from the cutout pressure as opposed to the maximum allowable variance of +/- 7%. In a condition where constant braking may be necessary, the air systems may deplete sooner than expected. Spartan Chassis will notify owners and replace the affected gauges free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by early Oct. 2013.
In addition, the following companies are initiating recalls connected with the use of Fastec-brand door locks. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam, locking anyone inside. The manufacturer will contact owners of the units and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. Owners may call Fastec at (800) 837-2505, or contact the manufacturer of their unit if it is affected.
• Lakota Corp. is recalling certain 2007 3HSLBP and 4HSLGN6 travel trailers equipped with a Fastec-brand door lock. The recall is expected to begin by mid-October 2013. Owners may contact Lakota at (574) 848-1636.
• Open Range RV Co. is recalling 9,600 model year 2009-2013 travel trailers manufactured from Oct. 1, 2007, through July 12, 2013, and equipped with Fastec-brand deadbolt locks. The recall is expected to begin by early Nov. 2013. Owners may contact Open Range at (260) 768-7771.
• Jackson Mfg. Co., Inc. is recalling 250 model year 2006-2013 Jackson travel trailers manufactured Jan. 1, 2006, through April 25, 2013, and equipped with a Fastec-brand door lock. The recall is expected to begin by early Nov. 2013. Owners may contact Jackson at (405) 224-6013.
