Rep. Walorski Acknowledges Indiana Businesses
Indiana Congresswoman Jackie Walorski delivered remarks on the House floor in Washington, D.C., in recognition of National Manufacturing Day. Celebrated on Oct. 4th, this occasion is meant to highlight manufacturing operations and showcase the importance of the manufacturing industry to America’s economic engine.
“The manufacturing industry has pumped life back into Northern Indiana’s workforce,” said Walorski in a release. “As we continue to face high unemployment and economic challenges, Hoosiers have proven through hard work and innovation that remarkable results can be achieved. On National Manufacturing Day, it is a privilege to applaud Hoosier businesses, like Drew Industries, who create thousands of jobs in the Second District, directly contributing to Elkhart County leading the nation in job growth.”
Elkhart County was named No. 3 on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s list of counties with the fastest-growing job growth. RV manufacturers and suppliers have significantly contributed to job growth in the area.
The National Association of Manufacturers indicates that since 2000, Indiana’s manufactured goods exports rose almost three times as fast as the state’s overall economy, accounting for 98% of Indiana’s exports. Drew Industries Inc. relocated recently from New York to Elkhart, Ind., and plans to add 800 more jobs to Elkhart and Goshen by 2017. On Wednesday (Oct. 2) Ind. Gov. Mike Pence and several local legislators joined Drew CEO Jason Lippert in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the company’s new Elkhart headquarters.
