Year-over-year retail towable sales gained 12.7% in August while registrations for the first eight months showed a 13.8% increase. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., results showed:
• Sales for the high-volume travel trailer sector grew 14.2% in August and 15.2% for the eight months.
• Fifth-wheel registrations rose 13.1% for the month and 14.3% year-to-date.
• Folding camping trailer sales were dipped 2.8% in August and 2% year-to-date.
• Recreational park trailer sales decreased 21.6% for the month and 10.9% year-to-date.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader through August with a 35.4% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. at 22.5% and Jayco Inc. with an 11.6% share. The Forest River Group, which includes the company’s towable building divisions in a “consolidated” report by Statistical Surveys, earned a 35.3% share for August.
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailer sales with a 32.8% share for the first eight months, ahead of Forest River (22.7%) and Jayco (14.4%). Thor held a commanding lead in fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 49.5% market share, while Forest River posted an 18.6% share and Forest River’s Palomino RV division held a 6.6% share.
Forest River was the folding camping trailer sales leader for the eight months with a 44.1% market share while Jayco (17.2%) held the No. 2 position followed by Forest River’s Coachmen RV division (14.6%). In the park model segment, Thor was No. 1, posting a 22% market share, with Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc. No. 2 at 11.4% followed by Skyline Corp. with an 8.8% share.
