The Better Business Bureau of Spokane, Wash., is warning consumers about a scam involving a truck and RV sales website that often advertises on sites like Craigslist, posing as a Helena, Mont.-area business.

KXLH TV, Helena, reported that on the website, a business that calls itself Willis Auto Center claims that it is “Montana Largest Pre-Owned Truck Dealer, Founded In 1994.”

But the Montana secretary of state website has no record of Willis Auto Center Inc. in Montana, and the number listed on the site has a 406 area code. KXLH reporter Lindsey Gordon tried it and on the first try it only rang. But on the second attempt a man answered, and when the reporter identified who she was, he hung up.

That website, found at lists an address at Market Street in Helena. However, that address leads to Helena’s D&D RV Center, a well-regarded area business that has absolutely no affiliation to Willis Auto Center.

D&D manager Mark Rispens said, “They found a location, unfortunately it was ours. And it’s a total Internet scam. They’re trying to get people to put up money on something they’re never going to get. They’re never going to get this piece of merchandise shipped to them, that’s obvious.”
