ORVA Convention Sees Strong Member Turnout
The Oklahoma RV Association’s (ORVA) 2013 State Convention, held Nov. 10-12 at the Grand Casino Hotel Resort in Oklahoma City, boasted record attendance and was “regarded as an acclaimed success by all those that participated,” organizers said.
Presented with the challenge-related theme “2014-We Mean Business!,” the convention provided an agenda of business programs designed to educate and assist dealer and associate attendees. According to a press release, the schedule addressed current affairs and changes affecting the RV industry and featured some of the RV industry’s top speakers, including: Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) vice president of administration Robert M. ”Mac” Bryan; Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) President Phil Ingrassia; Statistical Surveys Inc. General Manager Tom Walworth; consultant Hardee McAlhaney; Roger Vergara of RH Power & Associates; and consultant Marco Martinez. Jerry V. Teplitz, a well-known speaker and author, presented the keynote address.
The convention kicked off Sunday with a record attending golf tournament followed by a member welcome reception. On Monday, ORVA President Steve Bell presented the convention business agenda while Bryan and Ingrassia delivered state of the industry addresses. Other topics covered by the roster of guest speakers included state lobbying issues, dealership budgeting, the latest in digital marketing and advertising, and increasing leadership and personal power to new levels of excellence through positive management balance.
“The presentation of the convention was very organized, professional and dynamic,” said Bell. “Plus, the speakers’ lineup was one of the best I’ve ever seen and addressed issues directly impacting our dealerships today. This is one event I know I gained a lot from and I’m already looking forward to attending next year.”
Other events on Monday included a special donor silent auction and 50/50 money match campaign to raise funds for the dealer association. The President’s Banquet Gala that evening featured headliner entertainment, comedian Marty Berk.
The convention capped off Tuesday with Teplitz’s interactive presentation followed by the association’s annual business meeting that included plans for ORVA’s 2014 convention along. Elections were also held resulting in Jim Dickson as president and Ron Walker as vice president. Stephanie Sobkowiak and Jan Motley will remain as secretary and treasurer, respectively.
“This year’s convention was a huge success thanks to our generous sponsors and donors as well as the successful silent auction and 50/50 raffle all of which combined to raise funds to ultimately offset the convention costs,” said Sobkowiak.
The 2014 convention will be held Nov. 16-18 in Tulsa at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. For more information visit www.OKRVA.org or contact Vergara at (505) 345-8558.
